Dancer Anand Venkatachalam will demonstrate and explain hand gestures, footwork and talk about the differences between Abhinaya (storytelling) and Nritta (pure dance).

A quintessential component of Javanese performing arts, the shadow-puppet play (wayang kulit) combines theater, dance, music and story telling. Gamelan, an orchestra consisting predominantly of gongs and metallophones, accompanies the play. Dhalang (puppet master) Sumarsam will present the story in Javanese and English, accompanied by the Wesleyan Gamelan Ensemble and guest musicians under the direction of I. M. Harjito.
